Summer tour update http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2267 2008-07-18 14:25:00 It's Wednesday, and we've just arrived at Sonshine Festival in Willmar, Minnesota. We recently finished with Lifest in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and were sad to see things end. We had a lot of great conversations and were able to capture many great moments for the next video blog. (Stay tuned - it's coming soon!) The wonderful folks at Pro-Life Wisconsin helped us find housing while in the state, and we were really appreciative to be staying at Father Carr's Place 2 B. At the festival, a young woman from an online help site and hotline spent some time asking questions and taking literature. A resident advisor at a college asked for materials to distribute throughout the dorm and was given a copy of our Baby Steps DVD as well as various pamphlets. A nurse from Guatemala was happy to see us there, and we gave her a free copy of Baby Steps to take back home with her. She pledged to show the fetal development DVD to other nurses to reinforce their support for the right to life of preborn children. Matty and Rosh had separate conversations with a french fry vendor who told them about her abortion in 1973, shortly after it became legal. She greatly regrets it now, and they talked to her about the healing options available to women undergoing post-abortion distress. She was encouraged by their demeanor and nonjudgmental advice. Another woman stopped by the booth and shared her own abortion story. She has found healing and is the proud mother of two young children. I was surprised at how many people stopped to ask about the birth control pill, although it was good to see that people were open to learning, rather than choosing to remain in ignorance. We noticed that euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research were other hot topics we discussed a lot with festivalgoers. After packing up at Lifest, we travelled to Eau Claire and spent time in prayer at the local Planned Parenthood center. Following our pro-life visibility event, we said goodbye to Wisconsin, jumped in the van and set course for the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. We spent time visiting and helping out the always awesome employees at Human Life Alliance (now located at their new office in beautiful Minneapolis), and they found us a place to stay. We spent considerable time there at the local Planned Parenthood clinics, including the headquarters for the entire three-state Planned Parenthood affiliate (PP of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota). Several other pro-lifers were present, and I remember Elisa, Phil and I helping them out last year with sidewalk counselling. We are now at Sonshine Festival in Willmar, Minnesota and are finished with setting up the booth. There are already thousands of people here, so we're expecting a lot of really great interactions with folks. Last year, I was surprised at how many people were already actively involved in pro-life activities in their communties, whether through sidewalk counseling and activism at their local abortion clinic, volunteering at pregnancy resource centers or educating their friends.  Thanks for your support and prayers - we greatly appreciate it! -Jaynee VIDEO: Dylan on abortion http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2257 2008-07-15 05:34:00 Personally opposed but comments that everybody does have the choice.   What does he think is "bigger" than abortion? Trying to look slick, PP comes off greasy http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2256 2008-07-14 09:24:00 WHOA! A Planned Parenthood clinic in Indiana is making noise over its recent decision to start promoting adoption. Yes, you heard that right: A Planned Parenthood clinic in Indiana – part of the nationwide chain that sells 120 abortions for every single adoption is pushes – is just now starting to promote adoption. This is something that thousands of pro-life pregnancy resource centers have been offering for free for decades. The Post-Tribune of Northwestern Indiana reports, The Planned Parenthood clinic in Merrillville recently established a new program that should further distance itself from an image fostered by critics who claim its prime function is performing abortions. This week, the clinic became the third in Indiana to offer free services promoting adoption. The clinic joins a handful of centers nationwide in offering on-site counselors from a local adoption agency. "Our mission is to provide women with options, to give them information so they can make good decisions for themselves and their families," said Liz Carroll, vice president of patient services for Planned Parenthood of Indiana. Of course, we are always supportive of adoption as an option, and one of the pro-life movement's greatest legacies is the multitude of children adopted by pro-life families. However, that is not the issue here. What we see here is Planned Parenthood confirming what we've known for years: They weren't actively promoting adoption as an option in their counseling sessions and are now trying to remedy that with a slick PR move. It's not difficult to promote adoption. Yes, having a on-site counselor from an adoption agency can help, but Planned Parenthood doesn't need that in order to promote adoption over abortion. It's like someone saying, "We now have a maid, so our floors will now be vacuumed." You don't need a professional to do something like this. If Planned Parenthood is claiming that it can now promote adoption because it has an on-site counselor from an adoption agency, wouldn't that imply that any other Planned Parenthood clinic that doesn't have one is failing to offer a true variety of choices and therefore can be labeled pro-abortion? We have heard reports from pregnant women who have been to Planned Parenthood centers that Planned Parenthood can be heavy-handed in its "counseling" sessions, attempting to steer women towards abortion. This is just another attempt by Planned Parenthood's media spin team to cleanse a dirty image, but instead they just draw attention to the organization's spotty record. What are you thoughts on this? Planned Parenthood's busy week http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2254 2008-07-11 14:57:00 ALABAMA: The Planned Parenthood facility in Huntsville, Alabama is set to close this week on Friday, July 11. The clinic claims that it was unable to receive enough public funding to stay afloat, despite the fact that, nationwide, Planned Parenthood received $336,700,000 in taxpayer funding last year alone.  COLORADO: Planned Parenthood's new 50,000-square-foot abortion fortress has opened in a Denver suburb, and local residents and pro-lifers have already begun their campaign to get this new "supercenter" of death closed down. The $6.3 million facility was built with several features specifically designed to keep pro-lifers from being able to offer help to the women entering the clinic. NORTH CAROLINA: A Planned Parenthood center in Asheville, North Carolina has reopened after being closed for repair. FLORIDA: For the second time in its 90-year history, Planned Parenthood has chosen to disaffiliate itself from one of its local branches. Effectively immediately, Planned Parenthood of South Palm Beach and Broward Counties has been kicked out of the nation's largest abortion chain.  Previously in hot water for financial mismanagement, the chapter claims it received no help from Planned Parenthood and labelled the action as a "hostile takeover." In fact, Ruth Lynch, the new CEO of PPSPBBC, went as far as to say, "It was more about the Planned Parenthood trademark than it was about helping the community.'' Officials from Planned Parenthood's national office are putting their support behind their Greater Miami affiliate and plan to open new facilities to compete with the ones they just severed ties with. Do you think Planned Parenthood's actions in Florida provide further support for the argument that it acts more like a business than a public service organization? VIDEO: RFL summer tour VLOG http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2253 2008-07-11 14:52:00 UGH! of the week: Oh, Canada! http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2252 2008-07-11 14:48:00 Several RFLers in Canada have alerted us to the growing outrage over their government's latest attempt to appear out of touch with the population. On July 1, Governor General Michaelle Jean declared the nation's most infamous abortionist - Henry Morgentaler - a member of the Order of Canada. The Order of Canada is the highest honor the government can bestow upon a Canadian citizen, and the reason given for adding Morgentaler to its ranks is "for his commitment to increased health care options for women, his determined efforts to influence Canadian public policy and his leadership in humanist and civil liberties organizations." Well, pro-life Canadians have been joined by others in calling for the withdrawal of this (once) well-respected honor from Morgentaler. So far, three members of the Order of Canada have returned their medals to protest the decision to give this award to Morgentaler.  In just a few days, approximately 12,000 people have joined a Facebook group opposing Morgentaler's award of the Order of Canada.  If you have Facebook, add your voice to the chrous who have already joined the group. So here's your question: Is Canada's government out of line for awarding an abortionist its highest honor? We've been hunkered down in the exhibitors' barn for a day now and are finally able to settle in. We're a little tired of dealing with the rain and storms that we experienced plenty of at Ichthus and Alive, so when we woke up to the sound of rain on the roof, I was a little worried. However, once we got to work, our moods lightened, and we have been blessed with several great conversations. Dylan and I opened up the booth with prayer, and when we opened our eyes, there was a crowd of people around the booth ready to ask questions, pick up literature or ask about T-shirts. We're pretty happy to be camping with our friends David, Lauren, John, and Steve from the Love Alliance. They stayed with us at my house between festivals, and we've grown to really appreciate each other's ministries. We also had the pleasure of meeting up with several of the amazingly dedicated folks from the RFL Lancaster and RFL Selinsgrove chapters! If you're coming to any festivals, please come visit and let us know who you are!  Keep up with us here on the Summer Festivals Tour section of the RFL web site and by joining our Facebook group. – Rosh and the summer tour team New poll falls flat http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2209 2008-06-23 02:50:00 A new survey done by WorldPublicOpinion.org is being used by abortion advocates to suggest that the vast majority of the world opposes criminalizing abortion. However, one must merely read the actual poll data to see flaws in its data mining. The two poll questions are somewhat loaded and fail to address the core issue of abortion, and thus can't be viewed as evenhanded. Read the fine print, and you'll see that many of the individual nation samples were overly urban, due to the use of face-to-face polling. In other nations, landline telephones were used to gather information. Mexico's numbers were gathered by using random telephone sampling, despite only 55 percent of Mexican households having a telephone, meaning that lower and rural classes were less likely to be sampled. As excited as abortion advocates may be to see a poll seemingly validating their attitudes, this WorldPublicOpinion.org poll isn't the golden ticket they're looking for. If you see someone using this erroneous poll on blogs, MySpace bulletins or Facebook notes, call them out on it! Planned Parenthood and Habitat for Humanity http://www.rockforlife.org/blog.php?id=2207 2008-06-21 21:04:00 A few weeks ago, Planned Parenthood of Sarasota, Florida attempted a make a deal with Habitat for Humanity in order to comply with a zoning requirement for the construction of their new facility. City regulations required that a portion of the land where the new abortion center was being constructed had to contain multifamily dwellings. Planned Parenthood decided to try to sell this land to Habitat for Humanity for $10, but pro-lifers sprang into action. After receiving over 10,000 letters from donors and other pro-lifers asking them to refuse the transaction, Habitat cancelled the deal, and as of this date, Planned Parenthood has still not fulfilled that zoning requirement.. While this was a positive course of action that has delayed the opening of a Planned Parenthood abortion facility, many people have expressed dismay over the loss for Habitat for Humanity - some going so far as to say that pro-lifers hate and are working against low-income families!  While we are empathetic to the families and individuals helped by Habitat for Humanity, as pro-lifers, it is essential that we work our hardest to keep Planned Parenthood abortion centers like this one from opening and killing.  It must be understood, though, that Habitat for Humanity made their decision based on the loss of donations that an association with such a controversial organization might cause. All non-profit organizations are subject to the approval of their donors; if a donor doesn't approve of what the organization does, then that donor may choose to stop donating. Many donors expressed their outrage that Habitat would aid Planned Parenthood in opening its facility, and the organization listened to them. And remember, Planned Parenthood was doing this only because it was a requirement for the opening of their abortion clinic. At a time when our own elected officials are saying that oil companies, pharmaceutical corporations and lending institutions can't always be trusted - despite doing occasional "good deeds" - then why would we trust an organization that has proven time and time again to be shady and untrustworthy?
